Benefits of EVs

EVs can help improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. EVs continue to make inroads in reducing our dependence on traditional fuel sources and reducing our carbon footprint in Washington state.

EVs are cheaper to operate

The cost of charging an EV is lower than the cost of filling up a gas-powered car at the station. Given Washington’s low electric rates and high cost of gasoline, an EV can save Washingtonians an estimated $40 – $70 per fill up depending on their vehicle.

EVs are cheaper to maintain

EV maintenance can be about half the cost of gas-powered car maintenance. For starters, you can skip the regular oil changes and spark plug changes. With fewer moving parts and regenerative braking systems, EVs require less overall maintenance and batteries are reliable and can last up to 100,000 miles.

Charging is easy

If you have an outlet nearby you can charge your car overnight without special charging equipment – just like your cell phone. Your workplace may also have charging stations, and there are numerous public charging stations with more being added every day through the Washington Electric Vehicle Charging Program.
